President's Corner

President’s Message – January 2012

I hope your 2012 is off to a great start.  Our 2011 JWC year ended on a high note under the leadership of our outgoing Co-Presidents, Tina Poff and Bridget Perry, with the presentation of the 26th Annual, A Visit to Santa’s House.  This highly anticipated and HUGELY successful children’s event was again made possible because of the tireless efforts put forth by all our dedicated members, including our Santa House Room and Committee Chairs.  A very special thank you goes to our Santa House Chair, Cheryl Eustace.  Her countless hours spent on details and organization, not to mention her years of Santa House experience, helped bring this event to life and keep the weekend event running smoothly – well done Cheryl!  A wonderful time was had by all that weekend, which kicked off with our Preview Party on Friday night (thanks to our Preview Party Co-Chairs Jen Hinkle and Linnea May).  We look forward to presenting our CARE Partner, The Thomas Merton Family Center, with the “BIG” check at our February General Meeting.

As we welcomed in a new year, we also welcomed in a new JWC Board!  As the new President (who would have thought after only joining in August 2010), I am very excited to partner with this enthusiastic group of women, who I am sure already have their wheels turning with new ideas for the upcoming year.  I look forward to working with you.

While our calendar of events is always a work in progress, we have a couple of exciting events just around the corner which we will be talking more about at our March meeting and the coming months.  First and foremost is our Annual fifth-grade Town-wide Spelling Bee, now in its 31st year – wow, is that impressive or what?  If you are interested in learning how you can contribute your efforts to this wonderful community event, stop by our March 21th General Meeting.   In addition to Spelling Bee, come hear about all the other exciting things we have planned for 2012.  Remember, it’s never too late to get involved!

Finally, as we go along throughout the year, I welcome and encourage your ideas and comments on how we can continue to grow, not only in membership, but in our Mission to be an integral part of the greater Fairfield Community!

In Junior Spirit,

Marlene Battista
